How do I get a bespoke training plan from you?If you've made it to this question, it sounds like you're ready to take the first step, which is fantastic! Getting started is simple. Just send me an email at ian@signatureswimcoaching.com, and we’ll schedule an initial online consultation. During this call, I’ll take the time to understand your unique goals, background, and any specific requirements you might have. I’ll also ask some key questions to ensure I can create the most effective plan for you, and you’ll have the chance to ask anything you'd like about the process. If everything feels right and you're happy to move forward, we’ll agree on a start date and officially kick off your personalised training journey together!

Why don’t you just offer a generic plan for everyone? To put it simply, this is just not my philosophy. No athlete is the same, and it is my belief that they shouldn’t be treated as such. I pride myself on delivering a completely bespoke service that is tailored to your unique physiology, goals, lifestyle, and training history. A generic plan might work in the short term, but it won’t account for your individual needs, strengths, or limitations. With a custom plan, we can adjust for your specific goals, whether you're looking to improve performance, overcome an injury, or balance training with other life demands. Additionally, through a personalised plan, I ensure you're involved in the process. Your feedback and preferences shape your journey, leading to more sustainable progress and long-term success. This approach not only improves your results, but also makes sure you enjoy the process, stay motivated, and avoid burnout or injury. Ultimately, my aim is to empower you with the tools, knowledge, and support to reach your full potential—not just follow a one-size-fits-all formula.

How does the online coaching process work? The online coaching process begins with an initial consultation call, where we will discuss your goals, current swimming level, and any specific requirements you may have. During this call, I’ll outline the services included in your chosen package, as detailed in the ‘Training Plan’ section of my website. The more information you provide, the better I can tailor your bespoke plan to meet your unique needs and any competitions you might be preparing for. Once we have a clear understanding of your objectives, I will create a personalized training plan that outlines specific workouts and strategies designed to help you achieve your goals. Depending on the package you select, I’ll provide varying levels of ongoing support and make adjustments to your plan as needed, ensuring you stay on track and continue to progress. This collaborative approach allows us to adapt and refine your training as you evolve, equipping you with the tools and guidance necessary for success. All training plans will be delivered as a weekly package and sent to you no later than Sunday evening, prior to the upcoming training week. If you subscribe to my Gold Package, we will also schedule a regular weekly time to connect online, where we can discuss your ongoing development and any modifications required for the following week’s training.

What are the benefits of doing a 1-2-1 coaching session with you?Private sessions are a powerful way to break through the limitations of group training, offering an environment where you can push yourself and progress at an accelerated pace. Whatever your swimming goals, 1-2-1 coaching provides the expert attention and tailored guidance needed to take your skills to the next level. With private coaching, I can fully customise each session to address your specific needs and focus on the areas that will have the biggest impact on your performance. Whether it's refining your stroke technique, perfecting your starts and turns, or improving pacing strategies, every session is designed to meet your goals. This personalised approach not only enhances your skill development, but also builds confidence in the water, making your progress both faster and more sustainable.

Can you travel to me for a 1-2-1 coaching session?Absolutely! I do offer a mobile coaching service where I can travel to your local pool for a private session, provided that a lane is booked in advance. This allows you to train in a familiar environment while still receiving the benefits of personalised coaching. If you're interested in this service, please reach out to me for a bespoke quote, and we can discuss the details to make it as convenient and effective as possible for you.

What type of swimmers do you work with?Although I've spent the last decade immersed in the elite level of the sport, my coaching services are available to swimmers of all levels—from beginners to masters swimmers, all the way up to elite professionals. Whether you're looking to refine your technique, build endurance, or train for competitive success, my bespoke coaching platform is tailored to meet your specific goals. My expertise isn’t limited to pool swimming. I also work with open water swimmers and triathletes looking to improve the swimming component of their sport. No matter where you are on your swimming journey, I’m here to help you take the next step.

Do you offer services to clubs or groups, as opposed to individuals?Absolutely! I offer a range of services tailored specifically for clubs or groups. Whether you're looking for coach development support, group training sessions, or a bespoke training plan for multiple swimmers, I’m happy to collaborate with you. My goal is to provide the same personalized, high-quality coaching experience to groups as I do for individuals. Feel free to reach out, and we can discuss your specific needs to create a customized plan that works best for your club or group.

Do you work with age group swimmers?Yes, I do work with age group swimmers, but it’s my belief that young swimmers should primarily be supported by their home coach and allowed to develop naturally in their early years. I feel that the foundation of trust with their primary coach is essential for long-term growth and enjoyment of the sport. However, if you feel that your swimmer is reaching a stage where they need more focused technical direction and individual attention, I would be more than happy to assist. That said, I personally believe this more specialized coaching is most effective when swimmers are at least 12 years old and ready for the additional level of focus and detail.
